Is your switchboard updated?:

Modern updated switchboards play an important role in ensuring that you are keeping your home and family safe. Many older fuse boards and switchboards have rewirable fuses that are made from ceramic. These are EXTREMELY dangerous & don’t comply with electrical safety standards.

These days, new homes have switchboards that include automatic trip circuit breakers and safety switches. If ever you face an electrical fault, you can count on these switchboards to trip off and keep your family safe. The benefits of tripping circuit breakers and safety switches during a fault are that they reduce the fire risk hazard, save your appliances and save a life from being electrocuted on the spot! If your circuit breaker/s or safety switch turns off and won’t turn back on, just call us on 0411 438 738 to get you out of trouble FAST!

If you aren’t sure if you have a Switch Board that is offering the best protection for your family… Please send us a photo and we will provide you with a FREE visual inspection of the board.

Safety Switch’s are VERY IMPORTANT!

We just spoke about ensuring your switch boards are up to date however, it is important to speak about Safety Switches as one topic!

Safety switches save lives! If there is a broken wire in the house and someone touches the object, a safety switch will trip in 0.3 seconds avoiding possible death! If there is no Safety Switch Installed in a switch board and the same thing happens… the person would be electrocuted and will face serious injuries including death!

We all know kids can be curious.. We have heard of many instances where a child has put a knife in a toaster. Luckily these people had safety switches other wise the child would have been badly hurt.

We all love our children and will protect them from anything! Ensuring there is no possible way for anyone to face electrocution it is important to have a Safety Switch Installed.

If you aren’t sure if you have a Safety Switch… Please send us a photo and we will provide you with a FREE visual inspection of the board.

Please watch this video below of a young mother who faced this exact incident!

Safety with Power Boards:

Every family is getting more an more appliances every year. This means eventually you will run out of power points you can use. When you have no more power points to use, it can be easier and cheaper to purchase power boards. However, power boards do not offer your family the safety that you deserve!

Investing in the installation of extra power points will ensure you do not have to worry about over heating power boards.

If you are currently using power boards and are unsure if you are overloading… please send us a photo and we will get back to you as soon as possible as your safety is our main priority!

Knowing how to handle an Electrical Fire:

Never EVER try to put the electrical fire out with water. In the spare of the moment it may seem like the best option but it will only make it worse. Water conducts electricity therefore it will make the fire worse. Always ensure you have a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket in your home!

Ensure everyone in your house knows how to use a fire extinguisher and fire blanket.

Please rest assure that we will always be there to assist you with keeping your home and family safe! If you have any photos you would like to send us that you think are of unsafe problems… Please send them in and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

Check Your Switch Board!

Why should you check your switch board?

There are many of reasons why it is important do check your switch board:

  • Ensure it does not have ceramic fuses
  • Ensure circuit breakers are protected by safety switches
  • Ensure it is up to date
  • Ensure your families safety

How do you know you have an OLD or NEW Switch Board?

Old Switch Boards look like this:

Switch Board Upgrade, Sunbury, Melton, Essendon, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest

New Switch Boards look like this:

Switch Board Upgrade, Sunbury, Melton, Essendon, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest

Benefits of upgrading an OLD Switch Board:

  • Fuses, if tripped cannot be reset. They must be replaced if ever there is an overload. However with circuit breakers, if tripped they can be reset easily by pushing the switch back into the up position.
  • Makes it easier for a home owner to distinguish where there is a fault in the home.
  • Safety switches protect your family! If your child was to put a fork into a toaster, the safety switch would trip instantly avoiding a terrible accident! In the old fuse boards, there is nothing to protect your child if this was to occur. A Safety Switch can switch the power off in as little as 0.3 seconds!
  • You can find faulty appliances with a safety switch.
  • The benefits of having Safety Switches are endless!

What happens if a safety switch trips?

If your power goes off and you cannot push the switch back into the up position, you may have a faulty appliance. You must disconnect each appliance by switching them off and un plugging them from the wall. If you are unsure of what appliance is fault you can un plug the appliances individually until you are able to restore power. If you can still not find the fault appliance it is time to call an electrician.

It is recommended to upgrade your OLD Switch Board to a NEW Switch Board with Safety Switches. There is nothing more important than family so we should do everything to keep them safe. Electrocution for young children is more likely as they are curious and are more likely to stick a metal object somewhere it shouldn’t be! It is also a benefit of being able to fault find yourself before calling an electrician as it can save you money!

We offer a service like no other!

If you are curious about if your switch board is up to date, send us a photo and we will tell you on the spot! There is nothing like having the peace of mind knowing your house and family is safe.

Benefits of DVR and NVR CCTV cameras

CCTV Cameras

First of all, it is important to understand that CCTV means Closed-Circuit-Television. Security Cameras these days are becoming more and more popular due to the increasing crime rate in Melbourne. Security Cameras help protect your family, your home and your pets. They provide an instant deterrent for possible crime as homes not under surveillance are more likely to be targeted.

What does DVR stand for?

Digital Video Recorder that records HD Cameras connected via coax cables.

What does NVR Stand for?

Network Video Recorder that records IP Cameras transmitted via network cables.

Why choose a DVR or an NVR?

  • There is not much difference in quality.
  • DVR Camera Units are usually cheaper than NVR’s.
  • NVR’s are future proof! This meaning in the future if you ever need to upgrade or expand the unit you can! DVR’s have served their purpose so they will eventually fade out.
  • NVR units allow you to have IP Cameras.
  • DVR units allow you to have up to 4MP cameras whereas, with NVR’s there is an endless supply of camera qualities.
  • NVR IP Cameras have a wider field of view.

Which one should you choose?

Ultimately it comes down to your budget and what you will be using the cameras for. If the cameras are just used as a deterrent than any cameras will suit your needs. However, if you are wanting them for security reasons and want good quality cameras that can eventually be upgradable, NVR is the way to go for you.

If you never want to worry about paying for a full camera system again than NVR is the way to go. In the future NVR IP Cameras will be the most popular on the market, therefore DVR units will become a thing of the past.

Protect your animals | Security Cameras

How important are your animals to your family?

Our guess is VERY important!

We have heard many different reasons as to why our customers want Security Cameras Installed. We have come to conclusion, one of the main reasons is to protect pets!

By installing Security Cameras, they not only protect your home and family, they protect our beloved pets! Our animals are just like family to all of us so ensuring they are also safe is important!

Why should we install CCTV to monitor animals?

1. Unfortunately, there are people out their who have no regard for the love you have for your pet. It is very easy for someone to jump a fence and hurt, badly injure or take your beautiful pet! It is a harsh reality but crimes happen just like this all the time. When you are at work for long periods at a time or you have gone away for a weekend without security cameras you have to way to see if your pet. It is great peace of mind knowing you have the safety of your pets in the palm of your hands!

Furthermore, a great friend of ours recently had their dog taken from their property in Sunbury and were besides themselves! They tried to call all the animal shelters and wait for a phone call that he had been found! Luckily, he managed to escape and was picked up from the North Melbourne Dogs Home! Security Cameras will now protect her animals whilst she is at work or away on holiday!

2. Some people have dog walkers, dog sitters or house minders whilst they are away. You can monitor how your animal is treated whilst enjoying your time away. If there has been some instances where the animal has been “aggressive” to the person, you can visually see for yourself!

3. You can view your animals behaviour whilst you are not home. Have you ever returned home to a shredded pillow, destroyed pot plant, holes in the backyard? You can see exactly what your pet is up to when you are not home! This helps you to come up with a way to action the problem!

If we could all stay at home and be with our pets I’m sure we all would! However, you will not have to worry about their safety knowing you can instantly view them on your smart phone!

Licensed CCTV Installers

Some people do not realise that in order to install CCTV a licensed business and installer must complete the installation. Electricians must be qualified to do all electrical work. However they are not qualified to install cameras just by being an electrician. Installers must be a registered business and a licensed individual to install CCTV Cameras. If an installer is not qualified, the work will not be covered by insurance if anything does occur and was caused by the CCTV Cameras. Therefore, You may be denied an insurance claim if you use an un-licensed CCTV Installer so do your research!

Please refer to this website ( to ensure that the CCTV Installer you are using has a Private Security Business Registration and Private Security Individual Registrations.

If an insurance claim arises e.g. a fire and reasonable doubt is placed on the installers work as a cause. The claim may be denied. As the installation was not performed by a qualified installer in compliance with the rules and regulations.

The Victorian Police state on their website… “Members of the public should only engage business operators and individuals who are appropriately licensed or registered for the activity they are undertaking.”.

Reasons to use a qualified installer:

Smoke Alarm Knowledge

Why should you have a smoke alarm?

When people sleep, they lose their sense of smell. This means if a fire breaks out and you have no smoke alarm, you will not be woken up until it is too late. A smoke alarm is the electronic noice you need to save your life. Fires can spread and grow within two to three minutes! By having a smoke alarm, you are provided with the early warning you need to escape.

Smoke alarms protect your family, pets, property and you! Our loved one are the most important thing to us so if something was to happen that could have been prevented with the warning of a smoke alarm we would feel terrible. If you have no smoke alarm and a fire occurs:

  • You are 57% more likely to suffer property loss and damage without a smoke alarm.Smoke Alarm
  • You are 26% more likely to suffer serious injuries.
  • You are 4 times more likely to die.

Smoke alarms MUST be installed in every house.

Smoke alarms are compulsory in every house hold.

Since 1 August 1997, Victorian law states that smoke alarms (complying with Australian standards AS 3786) must be installed in all homes, units, flats and townhouses. It is the legal responsibility of all owners and landlords to install working smoke alarms.

Residential homes constructed before 1st August 1997 need only 9 volt battery powered smoke alarms installed. Residential homes constructed after 1st August 1997 must have smoke alarms connected to 240 volt mains power. In addition a backup battery must be installed in the smoke alarm.

Smoke alarms MUST:

  • Have a working battery installed.
  • They must be tested yearly.
  • Batteries have to be replaced yearly.
  • The alarm must be completely replaced after 10 years.

Did you know?

Smoke alarms have expiry dates on them.

Locating a smoke alarm

  • Smoke alarms must be located between each bedroom area and the rest of the house.
  • In addition inside any bedroom where someone sleeps with the door shut
  • In a two storey home a smoke alarm is required on every storey, located in the path that people will use to evacuate

Note: Cooking fires are common. High ceilings or the layout of your house may increase the time it takes for your smoke alarm to operate. Consider installing a photo-electric smoke alarm closer to the kitchen area.

Testing and Maintenance

Smoke alarms should be tested regularly

  • Monthly: Test by pressing the test button with a broom handle
  • Yearly: Vacuum around your smoke alarm vents
  • Yearly: Replace your 9 volt battery each year at the end of daylight savings.

The MFB’s campaign at the end of daylight saving each year reminds people to:

“Change your clock; change your smoke alarm battery”

If the Residential Tenancy Act 1997 (RTA) applies to residential premises, the landlord is not only responsible for the installation of a smoke alarm but also its ongoing maintenance as per section 68(1) of the RTA Landlord’s duty to maintain premises:

“A landlord must ensure that the rented premises including fixtures and fittings provided by the landlord at the rented premises are maintained in good repair.”

It is the tenant’s responsibility to:

  • Test the smoke alarm every month to make sure it is working
  • Contact their agent/Landlord if the smoke alarm is not working
  • Contact their agent/landlord if the smoke alarm omits an occasional chirping noise as the battery or smoke alarm is faulty

Smoke alarm subsidy for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

A specialised smoke alarm is available for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Due to the cost of this type of smoke alarm, the Department of Human Services provides assistance via a subsidy.

Family comes first.

Always remember, your family comes first, therefore you should keep up to date with the maintenance of all smoke alarms in your house.

Contact us today to ensure that your smoke alarms are maintained yearly!

Spike in Sunbury Burglaries

At least eight Sunbury homes have been targeted by burglars in recent weeks and police are calling for residents to be vigilant.

Burglars have hit homes on Albert Road, Bundanoon Avenue, Darbyshire Street, La Perouse Close, Ponsford Place, Ramsay Court, Saxonwood Drive and Wildflower Drive.

Detective Senior Constable Renee Prestia, of Hume CIU, said the break-ins happened throughout January.

“There has been a significant increase in residential burglaries in the Sunbury area [this month],” she said. “Some of the burglaries had bicycles stolen and this could possibly have something to do with it being school holidays at the moment. In others jewellery, iPads, mobile phones and other valuables were taken.”

She said the burglaries were not concentrated in a particular area.

“We are likely looking for more than one offender involved in these burglaries,” she said.

“The streets that were targeted are spread out, so it appears that they could possibly be unrelated.”

The crimes come as data released by the Crime Statistics Agency last month revealed there was a 27.2 per cent increase in burglary/break and enter incidents in Sunbury in the past year.

The figures also showed an overall 20 per cent rise in crime across Hume.

Senior Constable Prestia encouraged residents to tighten their security arrangements and keep their eyes open.

“Residents should be looking out for suspicious people driving vehicles around,” she said. “And keep their homes, vehicles and valuable belongings locked away.

“If they see anything, they should contact police immediately. ”

Two Sunbury residents commented on the Hume Eyewatch Facebook page about their experiences with recent thefts in their neighbourhoods.

“I know of one these burgs and yes they attempted to steal a motorbike. But didn’t get far with it,” one woman posted.

“It’s all over Sunbury. We were cleaned out while on holidays [in September] and they came back a few times without anybody noticing,” another said.

Anyone in need of police assistance should call 000 or make a confidential report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Energy Saving Tips!

When it comes to an energy bill everyone wants to do their best to save money! It can be hard living in a household full of people however if you all follow these simple tips you can defiantly decrease your energy bill.

Living Room

  1. Make sure appliances are switched off at the wall. Although you may not be using them, they still use power if they are switched on.
  2. Instead of turning on all of the lights in your living room use a lamp that is set in the corner of the room to decrease the energy usage of having lights on.
  3. When it comes to buying globes make sure that you are buying ENERGY SAVING GLOBES! There are globes these days that are still as bright however they do not draw as much power!
  4. Are you sitting in the living room and your kitchen lights are on? Switch off your kitchen lights, they do not need to be on if no one needs them.
  5. Make the effort to switch the TV off when there is nothing good to watch on TV. If there is nothing interesting to watch why watch it at all?

  1. Just like the lounge room, buy an energy saving globe for a lamp and use the lamp instead of your bedroom lights!
  2. When you leave the bedroom turn everything off! If you are planning to not go into the bedroom for a while and have left a light on your using energy that doesn’t need to be used!
  3. At night use a sleep timer on the TV if you have one. Don’t fall asleep to the TV and wake up 3 hours later with the TV still on.

  1. When it comes to using the oven, try not to open the oven door frequently as this just lets heat out.
  2. If you need to boil water, use a kettle not the stove. Its quicker and it uses less energy!
  3. Always keep in mind that microwaves use less energy than an oven!

The Laundry

  1. If its not raining out side then use a washing line to dry wet clothes!
  2. Make sure that you aren’t using the washing machine if your not washing a full load!
  3. If you are going to use the dryer, make sure the clothes have been spun thoroughly in the washing machine so the dryer has to do less work! Don’t put dripping wet clothes in the dryer ever!

  1. Make sure water saving shower heads are installed to reduce the amount of hot water and energy used!
  2. It can be an accident to leave hair dryers and straighteners on sometimes however this uses unessasary energy. Make sure all appliances are turned off.

Cooling and Heating

  1. Wear the appropriate clothes for the weather! Don’t wear shorts and a shirt if its freezing outside and turn the heater on. By wearing the correct clothing you can avoid using the heater for as long or completely.
  2. Make sure you keep all blinds closed to reduce the amount of energy required to heat/ cool a room.

Whole House

  1. Ensure if going on holidays that you turn off all appliances.
  2. Ensure everyone in the household is doing their best to follow these tips as well.
  3. Upgrade all globes in the house to energy saving globes.
  4. You can even upgrade to LED Down Lights that you won’t have to worry about using a lot of energy or heating up.

We are confident that if you and your household implement these tips into your daily lives, then you can decrease your electricity bills!

Landlord Smoke Alarm Servicing

Electrician, Melton, Sunbury, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest, Security Cameras, CCTV Cameras

Beginning on the first of August 1997, Victorian law declared that smoke alarms are required in all residences and these smoke alarms must be in compliance with Australian standards. Legal responsibility for the installation of functioning smoke alarms falls to landlords and owners. Every single smoke alarm is required to have a battery, has to be tested on a regular basis to ensure that it is functioning properly, and must be replaced once a period of 10 years has passed.

It is the landlord responsibility to have working smoke alarms installed and maintained to Australian standards and BCA. If you fail to protect the safety of tenants/ investment property with working and regularly maintained smoke alarms it may result in the dismissal of insurance claims for any damages, personal injury or loss of life. You can also receive a $500 penalty for failing to comply with the legislations.

It is the responsibility of the tenants to test the batteries each month, make sure that the smoke alarms are clean and to report any issues relating to the Smoke Alarms. If tenants do not report the problem then it is their responsibility.

Only smoke alarms save lives, that is why it is important that they are serviced annually. The servicing is more than turning up for five minutes, testing the button for a beep on the alarms and leaving… Our Smoke Alarm services also include an electrical safety inspection.

Our electrical safety inspections include….

  • Replacing the smoke detector batteries at no charge.
  • Replacing the smoke detector at no charge if it needs replacing.
  • Ensuring smoke detectors are in the correct spot.
  • Checking expiry dates of all smoke detectors.
  • Unlimited visits per year to check the smoke detectors.
  • Check the rentals switch board.
  • Check the house wiring
  • Check the light wiring.
  • Checking all power points.
  • Checking to make sure that there are no overloaded power boards.
  • Providing a report of the inspection.
  • Provide an electrical certificate.

Don’t pay companies a service fee to inspect your smoke alarms to then find out that they were faulty and you must now pay for the replacement of them. We have a one price system for a low $99 that will include battery or smoke alarm replacements. There are absolutely no hidden fees with our smoke alarm servicing!

The best part about it is we are qualified electricians! Why should you have a general service company to check your smoke detectors only to find out that they have to call in the electricians to install a smoke alarm! We will do it on the spot for you (the landlords) and your tenants!

If you wish to contact us about this service simply give us a call!
